Hamstring stretches are very important to do for flexibility, mobility, instability of the lower body.

Having tight hamstrings can lead to lower back pain and tight hips. Your lumbar spine is directly affected by the actions of the hip flexors and hamstrings.

It’s rare to have chronically tight hamstring muscles and NOT suffer from pain in the lumbar region.

Bruce Lee’s notorious one-inch punch demonstration became one of the most celebrated blows in the world and certainly a daring feat of strength to many.

He literally could send a grown man hurling across a room from this devastating exhibition of raw strength, speed, and explosive power.

In this article, I’d like to give you my take on how he generated his ferocious power.

His energy was initiated right from his very toes that then spiraled fiercely upwards through his entire body and core to finally extend outwards from his fist with a wicked release of power within a millisecond.

You’ll understand some important nuances of his one-inch punch that I believe were the most important driving factors behind his ability to generate his tremendous crushing power.

Of course, first and foremost, perhaps we should look at how Bruce Lee’s one-inch punch and true power came from his intellect before we start analyzing his actual physical movements.

Bruce Lee’s Blueprint of Energy & Power

I think you’ll see that he obviously had a clear blueprint embedded in his imagination of the exact timing and trajectory of the energy he would ignite within milliseconds.

Most students are taught to compress their power upon impact. Their entire structure usually moves downward and locks down even further with the exhalation of their breath.

Even with punching with complete follow-through, traditionally taught ways of punching look completely different than when you learn to EXPAND outward with power that’s precisely matched with congruent breath power that expands instead of compresses.

Watch the videos carefully and you’ll see Bruce Lee’s energy and power EXPAND outward.

What’s fascinating is that Bruce Lee’s trademark combat sounds he made throughout his movies were not at all like a compression of energy and breath like most martial artists make when they attack with the usual compressed and harsh “kiai”.

No, his “cat like” sound was intrinsically linked to distinct trajectories of energy and breath patterns that directed his congruently powerful and quick movements. 

Most of this vocal expressions were expansive and they often curved and arched diabolically like the sound a dragon’s tail might make whipping outward and hooking flesh on it’s way back with its barbed scales.

I think once you answer that question, you may begin looking at Bruce Lee’s one-inch punch differently and see it as an expansion of force instead of a compression of energy.

Furthermore, keeping this in mind, you’ll see that Bruce Lee’s body is not locked down with compression after striking.

You’ll see that his energy is an outwards explosion that also completely recoils back afterwards so he can do again over and over with equally devastating power.

Keep watching the quick clip within this article above closely and you’ll see that he isn’t locked down with compression at all in the traditional sense. Doesn’t it look expansive when you actually think about it now?

First, mindset is extremely important before implementing any particular training exercises whether you want to get stronger fast or lose weight.

So, if you want to get faster, try using these simple mind hacks…

Instead of trying to beat a stopwatch or another competitor, start training with the mindset I describe below and see just how quickly this amps up your speed in comparison. I do this all the time myself and the results are incredible.

How To Get Faster By What You See, Hear, And Feel

What we see, hear, and feel all affect us all deeply.

There’s no doubt that the images in our minds affect our actions profoundly. There’s no doubt that the words and music we hear affect our actions immensely.

There’s also no doubt that what we see and hear in our minds and hearts affect our emotions intensely.

So, when the pictures in your mind are amplified and congruent with what you hear through via your ears and activate your emotions on a real visceral instead of just intellectual level, they either empower you greatly or disempower your strength and speed significantly.

Your choice of music and imagery when you’re training can be one of the most empowering forces you can use to aid you in getting stronger and faster.

Mind Hack to How To Get Faster

As a shortcut for combining empowering imagery and feeling to fuse together to ignite more powerful commands to my entire musculature, I often listen to movie soundtracks when I’m training.

I have hundreds of movie soundtracks on my various playlists. I have every song categorized for the intended energy and power I want to achieve.

Do you have separate music playlists to optimize you for:

  • Increasing Energy
  • Getting Stronger Fast
  • Generating Faster Speed
  • Effortless Endurance
  • Etc.

I suggest you start thinking about this right away if you really want to know how to get faster, or strong, have more energy, or endurance.

Think of one of your favorite action movies and an particularly inspiring scene where you felt your blood rushing through your veins fast even though you were sitting perfectly still in your movie seat.

Close your eyes for a second and imagine the movie and how the music deeply affected your emotions. Now imagine yourself training in the gym and trying to amp up your speed.

Depending on the details of the action scenes you remember seeing along with the  music you hearing in your mind, they might be inducing conflicting commands to your entire musculature if you’re trying to understand how to get faster.

Are Imagery and Songs to Run
To Making you Faster or Slower?

Here’s what I mean. For instance, if you hear and see triumphant pictures, actions, music, and sounds effects of perhaps a roman legion marching into battle, and it all inspires feelings of valor, this will certainly motivate you to move with more ponderous force, which is great for lifting more weight or being relentless in your quest.

But, all these combined forces won’t necessarily allow you to move with greater speed simply because the picture and sounds of thousands of soldiers moving across the battlefield corresponds precisely to slower ponderous sounds sequenced to a slower musical beat.

So, I ask you, is this picture and music tempo really going to inspire optimal speed? Probably not. So, why not completely optimize your speed training on every level if that’s what you really want!

Choosing a hip hop or rap song might make you want to dance hard and lift more weight with perhaps a picture in your head of being a faux movie gangster, but does it really inspire the most empowering muscular synapses and movements that will help you run faster or strike faster than lightning?

Again, probably not.

So Think About This If You Want To
Know How To Get Faster

Instead of continuing to use a music playlist of cool songs that you just like, think about the intention behind the workout that you’re about to do first.

Then, create a playlist of songs so, if it’s faster speed you want, choose music and imagery from a movie soundtrack where you immediately see, hear, and feel incredible speed in your mind so it can automatically catapult every cell in your musculature to ignite great speed.

Here’s something I use to that immediately gets me running faster than I ever would without it…

If you watched the movie 10,000 BC, there are some incredible scenes in prehistoric times of hunters trying to take down a woolly mammoth and it starts aggressively going after them.

What If This Were Chasing You?

Would you dig deep and find a way how to run faster if a wooly mammoth were chasing you trying to stomp you into the earth?! You Bet!

If you want different results, you need to do different things and think differently. Otherwise, you shouldn’t expect different results. Make sense?

So, if you’re not getting the results you want, be open to new suggestions and take quick action if you want quick results andMammoth feedback.

If you’re not getting the speed you want while listening to cool pulsating hip hop or rap music where the only imagery that immediately comes to mind is you in a club hoping someone will notice your awesomeness, try putting on a sound track from a movie like 10,000 BC where blood pumping scenes immediately flood your mind with mammoths and saber tooth tigers chasing your ass because you’re their dinner. 

When you feel the music that goes with this imagery of trying to get away from a gigantic prehistoric mammoth, believe me, those FEELINGS will inspire untapped resources throughout your entire musculature that will enable you to run much faster. 

Instead of intellectualizing how to fun faster like, the music and imagery should induce FEELING how fast you’d be “inspired” to run if a gigantic prehistoric mammoth were chasing your ass! Dang!

Imagine that while you’re running to escape from it’s massive steps, you flashing across an open plain gets the attention of a saber toot tiger and it begins in the chase also.

Picture it leaping ferociously at you as you frantically jump over creeks and boulders with the longest strides you can manage.

But still, the saber tooth tiger is gaining on you. How do you Feel at this moment?

What You Feel And See In
Your Mind’s Eye Will Make You Faster

Every few seconds, as you can almost smell and feel the saber tooth tiger’s hot breath on your back, it snaps at you trying to take out big chunks of your hamstrings with it’s enormous dagger-like teeth.how to get faster

Now, ask yourself, would you be running faster thinking and hearing music like this?

Would the idea that each snap of the saber tooth tiger’s jaw activate you to run faster?

Why Do Kids Learn & Master Things Faster Than Adults?

 

What always amazes me is how adults marvel at how fast children learn and master things.

Sure children are like sponges but why??

Children quickly realize early on that learning and using their imaginations are just part of their daily life.

They have uninhibited curiosity for everything they see, touch, hear, taste, and smell.

The imaginations and creativity of children run beautifully rampant and mostly uninhibited – that is, before they’re made fun of by other kids and/or told by teachers and parents early on to stop day dreaming because it’s a waste of time.

By adulthood, they’ve been told so often to be quiet or wait their turn that their once exuberant energy and enthusiasm becomes greatly diminished or almost non-existent.

With many music and arts programs taken out of our schools, our creative right-brain’s natural abilities get overtaken by our left-brain processes that excel at memorizing facts and analyzing.

 

Without Full Brain Integration…

 

Our left-brain grows dominant and we use our creative right-brain processes less and less and soon it begins trying to even intellectualize our emotions and intuition.

Without full integration of both hemispheres, our left-brain dominate thought processes unfortunately wilt even the very way we move naturally organically, fluidly, powerfully, and creatively.

It’s when these things are combined that debilitating inhibitions and self-doubt begin throttling our naturally quick learning abilities and talents.

No wonder as adults we feel less energy, our joy flat-lines, our creativity wanes, our breathing patterns are stagnant, and our movements become angular, stiffer, and more constipated.

We stop making joyful sounds, breathing with exuberance, moving organically, and thinking creatively.

Why Are Children Naturally Born Visualizing Masters?

 

They can easily visualize just about anything in what I call 3-D – meaning that they can clearly hear, see, and feel everything they imagine. Adult filters are not yet installed.

Furthermore, they can easily see themselves in first, second, and third person view – and often all at the same time!

This is whole-brain integration because it engages ALL our senses more thoroughly!

Children, for instance, can see themselves inside a jet expertly commanding all the controls in first person.

Yet, as they run through the playground, they can see themselves looking at the jet from afar in third person feeling the wind whisking through their arms.

They’re not intellectualizing. Everything is colorful and visceral to them on every level and things that seem impossible to imagine for an adult are elementary to them.

How do we know this? Because you can so clearly hear them always making creative sounds that sound just like the energy they want to be!

It seems that even their voices try to emulate how a jet might fly at light speed at 186,000 mph.

They’re simply living in the moment making the sounds and breathing like the very energy they want to be. Brilliant!

 

Synergistic Energy in Motion

 

Sound and breath congruency with their imagination is the key that unlocks their organic fluid movement and boundless energy.

They are truly energy in motion and we don’t even see this as adults.

It’s their sound and breathing patterns that fuse their whole-brain thought seamlessly with their body movements.
